Berryfields, Aylesbury
The Project
Berryfields is a phased urban extension to Aylesbury which will accommodate 3000 homes, a new Academy, employment areas, district centre with retail, health and educational facilities, railway station and open space.
Power On’s work on Berryfields represented the biggest single project for the London team since the depot opened and was the first primary substation installation in the region.
A ‘First’ for Power
Working as principal contractor, Power On undertook the £7m project, which comprised an 8.2MVA load and 6.8km off-site extra high voltage cable route.
Consultation
To complete works, Power On negotiated the long term lease of the land; purchased land for the substation site and navigated three bridge crossings. They also undertook extensive consultation meetings with local residents and Buckinghamshire County Council’s traffic management division to ensure minimum disruption.
Responsible Developer
In addition, as part of its ‘responsible neighbour’ policy, Power On designed the substation to preserve a Category B oak tree on the site and made a substantial donation to fund a new disabled restroom for a local village hall.
- Electricity
The electrical infrastructure for a project of Berryfields’ size was extremely complex and required an experienced, knowledgeable and flexible team. Power On offered the ideal solution; an in-house team of experts who could work within strict timescales to professionally manage all aspects of the project – their involvement has ensured the continuing successful development of the area.
