Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital
The Project
The £95m Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital is a 32,000m² building serving 500,000 people
The hospital includes a 24/7 A&E department with critical care unit, short stay paediatric facility, consultant led maternity unit, inpatient wards, operating theatres, radiology and X-ray scanners.
Emergency Power
Working for Lend Lease, Power On designed and installed two dedicated 11kV feeds providing a combined 3.2MVA load from two separate primary substations. The 10,000m route involved negotiating bridges, waterways and a Network Rail Under Track Crossing (UTX). The assets were adopted in their entirety by Power On and its internal IDNO facility within the Group, who are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the HV cable and associated switchgear supplying the hospital.
- Electricity
Power On was helpful and proactive during the design process and carried that ethos on through construction. The project manager was always available and helped to make a difficult process much easier. Power On managed and conducted their works very professionally and with minimum disruption, throughout the off-site cable installation and onsite substation installation. They also saved the client a substantial amount of money compared to the original DNO quotation.
