Power On Supports Sarcoma UK
This year, Power On is proud to support Sarcoma UK – a charity chosen by our employees. Sarcoma is a rare and often overlooked cancer, and we’re committed to raising awareness and vital funds to support those affected.
This year, we invited our employees to nominate and vote for charities they felt passionate about – causes that have personally touched their lives or those around them. We’re proud to share that one of the charities chosen for our 2025 support is Sarcoma UK, a national charity dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by sarcoma.
Why Sarcoma UK?
This nomination came from a member of our team whose family was deeply affected by this devastating disease. In memory of her daughter Isobel, who bravely battled sarcoma, we are committed to raising both awareness and vital funds to help support others facing similar journeys.
Isobel’s legacy lives on through the Isobel Sheppard Legacy Fund, which raises money for Sarcoma UK and continues the work she was passionate about: helping others, spreading awareness, and striving for better outcomes for sarcoma patients in the future.
What Is Sarcoma?
Sarcoma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer that can develop in the bone and soft tissue. It can affect anyone, at any age – including children and young people.
- There are over 100 subtypes of sarcoma, making it difficult to diagnose, research, and treat.
- Only 55% of those diagnosed will survive beyond five years.
- According to a 2019 YouGov survey, 75% of people didn’t know what sarcoma was.
That’s something we want to help change.
Who Are Sarcoma UK?
Sarcoma UK is the only national charity in the UK focused solely on sarcoma. They fund groundbreaking research, offer support and information to patients and families, and campaign to raise awareness and improve diagnosis and treatment.
- Over £10 million invested in research
- More than 29,000 calls, emails and texts answered through their Support Line
- A strong voice advocating for everyone affected by sarcoma
Why It Matters
In the UK, 15 people every day are diagnosed with sarcoma. Yet this cancer receives a fraction of the funding and attention given to other cancers. The consequences are serious:
- 1 in 3 patients wait over six months for a diagnosis
- Misdiagnosis and delayed treatment are common
- Many healthcare professionals lack specific sarcoma training
- Support and information for patients and families are limited
Our Commitment
We’ll be supporting Sarcoma UK throughout the next 12 months with a focus on two goals:
- Raising awareness of sarcoma – what it is, who it affects, and why early diagnosis is crucial.
- Fundraising to support research, improve treatment options, and provide vital patient support.
Our first fundraising event is already underway:
