Telford 54, Shropshire
The Project
Power On was able to meet all the challenges presented by this 78-acre industrial park at Telford.
Telford 54 is a 78-acre site in one of Telford’s major industrial areas. It is Telford and Wrekin Council’s flagship site for automotive and advanced manufacturing employment and is already home to significant local employers.
Large Scale
Power On supplied the electrical connection to four large new factories at Telford 54. This required the laying of 4.3km of double-circuit, 33kV cabling, throughout Telford to a new 33/11kV 24MVA primary substation located on the new development. This supplies a series of 11kV distribution substations and the associated onsite infrastructure.
Obvious Choice
Telford and Wrekin Council selected Power On for the work due to its delivery timescales, price, and flexibility on the requirements of the site for the new primary substation.
Significant Challenges
The site posed significant challenges, which Power On was able to overcome. The primary substation was custom-designed to fit into a plot just 15m wide, making the best use of the developer’s land. Directional drilling was required under the M54 motorway, and the long, narrow, sloping site itself was challenging. The onerous drainage requirements from the planners meant that Power On needed to design a specialist drainage solution. Power On was proactive in ensuring reinforcement works were completed ahead of schedule. Working with the developer, Power On was able to deliver all works to programme.
- Electricity
Power On were able to deliver this strategic infrastructure to budget and within the required timescales. The work is of a high quality and now ensures all our major site users have access to power for their operational activities.
