The Project

Exchange Square is a significant new residential and lifestyle development in Birmingham’s city centre. The development required future-ready fibre technology and discreet implementation.

One of a number of similar projects Power On has in the centre of Birmingham, Exchange Square has distinctive architecture that promises not only luxury apartments but also a social hub.

Phase one includes 603 luxury apartments with a private members’ club, gym, and roof garden. A second phase will see a further 375 luxury apartments and studios, making 978 new residences in total.

Complex Connections

In this busy area of Birmingham, Power On provided two 1,000KVA substations and two 800KVA substations, with a maximum KVA of 3036. This is to power over 600 high rise apartments, held among three different landlords and including six retail units. The bespoke solution required technical expertise and a good working relationship with the main contractor and local authority client.

Fibre-Ready Homes

As well as providing the electricity supply, Power On is also delivering end-to-end, Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology, delivering ultra-fast broadband to meet current and future demand. Each home is fibre-ready, with phone and broadband live when the owner moves in.

Refined Solution

Power On provided a Fibre Integrated Reception System (FIRS) option for Exchange Square. This offers satellite and free-to-air TV and radio services including 3D, HD, SkyQ and On-Demand viewing, as well as digital radio. FIRS uses the fibre network to distribute signals, saving the cost and space of a secondary TV distribution network and removing the need for unsightly individual satellite dishes.
