Burlington House, Manchester
The Project
Set in the centre of Manchester, with several interested parties involved, the electricity connections for Burlington House required the expertise of Power On in terms of both proactive project management and in-house legal capabilities.
The 11-storey building comprises 91 outstanding residential apartments designed by internationally acclaimed architects, SimpsonHaugh and Partners. The highly complex city-centre structure is located within Manchester’s Piccadilly Basin.
Contemporary Living
The project was adjacent to the Grade II listed Jackson’s Warehouse and completes the enclosure of the Piccadilly Marina, which meant Power On were required to engage closely with English Heritage and the Canal Rivers Trust.
Connection Requirements
While the electricity connection itself was straightforward, with a 500kVA substation and 300m of HV cable route, the project had complex legal arrangements. Power On’s own in-house legal team were able to smooth the process and gain the necessary legal correspondence to enable all works and ensure energisation was completed on time.
Strong Relationships
Power On and GMI Construction worked closely together to ensure the project ran to programme. In the heart of this dynamic region, Power On also ensured that neighbouring residential areas were unaffected by the works and that the close proximity to the canal was not an issue.
- Electricity
This is the first time I had worked with Power On and I can honestly say it was a pleasure. From design to installation, the team were proactive and helpful with all enquiries. The energisation of the sub-station went without a hitch, which was testament to the relationships between Power On and ENWL. The management team also visited site daily to ensure works were progressing in line with GMI requirements. I will definitely be recommending Power On for my future projects.
